  1. ::  Tower of Babel -- File Name Dictionary
  2.  
  3.     This file is a sample dictionary for the automatic
  4.        translation of file names
  5.  
  6.        You can edit this file with Tower of Babel's Text Editor
  7.        or with any text processing program (for example, TeachText
  8.        or SimpleText)
  9.  
  10.     Keep the following in mind:
  11.  
  12.      1)  - empty lines are ignored
  13.          - lines starting with a colon (:) are ignored
  14.          - a double colon (::) starts a comment section;
  15.            all lines up to the next double colon are ignored
  16.  
  17.      2)  each non-empty line should contain a rule, i.e. two corresponding
  18.          file names separated by tabs (not spaces!)
  19.  
  20.            foo            bar
  21.  
  22.          translates "foo" to "bar" as well as "bar" to "foo"; matching
  23.          is not case sensitive, that means, "FOO" and "Foo" will be
  24.          translated, too         
  25.  
  26.      3)  a number of keywords controls the interpretation of rules
  27.          keywords must be placed at the very beginning of a line;
  28.          keywords apply to all following rules up to the next keyword
  29.  
  30.           ::TWO-WAY     translation works from left to right and vice
  31.                         versa; this is the default (that means you don't
  32.                         need this keyword at the beginning of a file)
  33.  
  34.           ::ONE-WAY     the following rules work from left to right only;
  35.                         "foo        bar" translates "foo" to "bar"
  36.                         but not vice versa; 
  37.     
  38.           ::EXCEPT      the following file names are not translated at all
  39.                         (there should be only one file name per line)

  41.          have a look at "DOS Dictionary" for a useful application of
  42.          ::ONE-WAY and ::EXCEPT

  44.      4)  you can use wildcard characters in file names:
  45.  
  46.                                 ?        matches any character
  47.                                 *        matches any sequence of characters
  48.                                 \        the following character is read literally;
  49.                                             for example, \? matches a question mark (and nothing
  50.                                             else), \* matches an asterisk (and nothing else),
  51.                                             \\ matches the backslash character
  52.  
  53.          note that wildcard characters may be used in both sides of a rule;
  54.          
  55.  
  56.     Version 1.0 users may notice that the conventions have
  57.        changed a bit; before using old dictionary files, run the
  58.        Dictionary Updater program.

  83.  left sides of the first rule and the second rule; in this case the
  84.  first rule is preferred;

  86.  if there are ambiguities, just remember to place more specific rules
  87.  in front of more general rules (this applies not to exceptions; exceptions 
  88.  may be placed after the corresponding rule)
